Ligaya's Cabaret and Casino Presents… Artemio and the Fireflies (Part II)
I've always had a huge fascination with sunrise but I swear on the earth where I came from, during that day, the blush and deep indigo sky stood average at your presence.
I had just finished my morning coffee and went straight to your uncle's house to deliver some wood he commissioned me to chop. You were standing by the veranda, in that same contemplative state when I first met you. Crochet shawl over your shoulders, you noticed the poor young lad admiring you from your uncle's shed.
"Coffee?" You asked me, your eyes brighter than the rising sun.
"Eliseo, tinatanong ka ng pamangkin ko, nagkape ka na ba daw?" Sir Lando nudged me, chuckling. I felt my face heat up and all of a sudden, you and I were both laughing, like a happily married couple with two girls and a baby on the way, a boy hopefully!
Despite my embarrassment on full display, I managed to respond, "Kakatapos lang," as I smiled from ear to ear.
I was no believer of superpowers, but I know, I just know, I gained some that day. Chopped twice more wood, checked off the market list twice as fast, trimmed twice as much grass, all while humming to The Temptations' My Girl.
